I am looking for a new helmet and headset. I am currently researching your offering. Do you have any recommendations on helmets that work the best with your system?
Rick, the HBC100 is designed to work with any full face helmet on the market. One feature to look at when choosing a helmet is the amount of space for the speaker/microphone units. They are very slim and should fit any DOT-approved helmet, but there are some differences between helmet brands and models.
We’re partial to light helmets so carbon fiber units. One model we like is the HJC FS-15 which works great with our communicators. This is the helmet that our tech guy uses with an HBC100 and it works great. In general, you can’t go wrong with any of the DOT- and Snell approved helmets on the market.
Let us know if you have any further questions.
Thanks!
Only two things are stopping me from buying this unit.
Patty Davis, National Motorcycle Travel Examiner, remarked that she still preferred her CB helmet communicator because it has greater range and as many people as have them can be on the same conversation. The range with the HBC 100 is about a tenth of a mile and only two riders can be in communication.
Any plans to address these limitations?
Alan, yes, we have a product coming out in April or May this year called the HBC200 that addresses these two issues. The range will extend to as far as the last rider with the unit (think about each unit on a rider acting as a relay) and as long as the rider has the HBC200 unit they will be able to jump into the conversation without any limitations.
I have a 2011 Harley and bought the head set which works with my phone that is the good part. What i want to know is if you are working on an adapter that will work with the stereo so i can use the CB that is installed in the bike and use the radio and cd player. or is there any other places i can look that will have this adapter that i am requesting?
Hi Jeffrey,
Thanks for purchasing the HBC100. Glad it’s working with your phone. Yes, we have a device to connect your headset to your CB. It’s the WT300 and it will connect your non-Bluetooth device, like your CB, to your HBC100. The WT300 also works with any Bluetooth-enabled helmet communicator/intercom.
Thanks!
Hi,
Very interested in this system. Can you tell me the diameter of the speaker/mic units? I use a Shoei RJ Platinum open face helmet and the HBC 100 would be perfect.
Jesse, the speakers are 1″ 3/4 in diameter. Thanks for your interest.
I see the system listed for a full face helmet but is there an application available for an open face 3/4 helmet
David, we have an image of a full-face helmet but the technology in the HBC100 MOTO is amazing and it works great with open or 3/4 face helmets.
When is the U-Clear HBC200 system going to be released?
We hear from the manufacturer that it will be around April/May. Keep checking our site for more news.
Can you outline differences in HBC 100, 120, 130 and 200?
How do you handle communications between 2 riders on same bike?
Also what is update on HBC 200 delivery?
Thanks
Hi Clint,
The HBC 100, 120 and 130 all use the exact same control unit. Each package comes with attachments and speakers that are tailored to their specific sport. The HBC100 (for motorcycles) and HBC120 (for skiing/snowboarding) come with the exact same integrated microphone/high fidelity speakers, but have different mounting hardware. The HBC130 has in-ear “headphones” that are more suited to bicycle helmets.
The HBC200 is our new for 2012 control unit that has a longer intercom range and “multi-hop” technology that extends the range of the units between riders. We don’t have a firm answer as to when it will hit the states. Right now we’re hearing it will be April. Stay tuned and we’ll have the latest info on this site and blog.
Thanks!
A friend and myself are interested in purchasing a pair of the HBC 200′s. Can you notify me when they become available?
Hi Robert,
We’ll post the availability on this site and we’ll shoot you an email.
Thanks!
My wife and I purchased two units at the Chicago International Motorcycle Show and were very excited after hearing about the capabilities of this unit. We’ve been looking for some time to find something small, wireless, boomless and without the need to link to a separate 2-way radio.
First, the install was VERY easy. We both ride with Icon Airframe helmets (great helmets by the way) and the install was flawless. Programming was a breeze and the instructions pretty straight forward. Our iPhones paired up easily.
Sound quality is much better than I had hoped and the sound level is perfect. The external speakers give you a much better sense of what’s going on around you unlike complete noise block from ear buds. Plus, and this is a big PLUS; no headphone wires blowing around and tangling up!
The built in mic picks up the voice with absolutely zero wind or engine noise.
Phone call pick-up works great…just say “hello” or “pick up” and you are set.
Now for the needed improvements; a longer range on intercom is a must. The new units coming out sounds like the perfect solution to a very near perfect product already. Also, let’s do something about the buttons. The UP and DOWN buttons need to be on the outside edges respectively. They are too close and with no real “feel” to the touch…especially with gloves on. As mentioned, put them on the top and bottom outside edges of the case, not in the middle next to each other. The ANSWER button is well placed. Let’s just make it more tactile to glove and ungloved fingers. Fix these little annoyances and you will have the VERY best system for the VERY best price. So, the question is; would I buy them again? You bet!! And I will buy the next generation when it is available. I only hope John; the CEO, will give us the same killer price break as he did in Chicago! Thanks, John! We love them and good luck. You are definitely on to something!
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the feedback on the HBC100. Glad that they’re working out for you. The intercom range will increase in the next rev of our communicators and the overall size of the control unit has been increased slightly. It’s great to get some real world comments on our products. We really appreciate that you took the time to write down your thoughts in detail.
I have been looking really hard for a wireless PTT I can use with FRS/GMRS radios, e.g., the Motorola Talkabout series.
The application I will be using it for is skydiving. Specifically, I want to be able to talk to others when I am flying a parachute. Out parachutes have a built-in forward airspeed of about 30mph at full flight so something that would enable conversation in a 30mph wind in my face is what I am looking for.
A finger-mounted wireless PTT would be ideal, but they don’t seem to make those for FRS/GMRS.
I should mention that typically I use a snowboarding helmet, i.e., a “half shell” style helmet where my ears are exposed but I would be willing to wear a regular open face for effective communications.
Also, I noticed that the HBC130, for bicycle riders looks like it uses air tubes, in my limited experience, air tubes are useless at higher altitudes.
Suggestions?
Thanks.
Walt
Hi Walt.
We recommend purchasing our HBC120 which is set up to use with snowboard helmets. This features our boomless microphone technology that would block out wind noise and allow you to speak with others. For this specific application, it would be best to install the speakers in the speaker pocket or padding of your snowboard helmet. Other Bluetooth headsets would be ineffective at those speeds.
In order to connect to your Motorola walkie-talkies, you would need our WT300 Bluetooth adapter. This includes a wireless PTT module that could be mounted in your glove.
You can read more about both these devices on our site.
If you have any technical questions, feel free to contact our expert Andy. His email is: ahusted@bitwaveusa.com

Has the “no A2DP or AVRCP support for navigation devices” been resolved/ The review on “webBike world” was very good with one exception.
This is the only thing stopping me from buy this.
Clay
Hi Clay,
Good news. The issue that ‘webBikeworld’ referred to in their review has been solved. UCLEAR headsets pair and support A2DP and AVRCP Bluetooth profiles with GPS devices.
Thanks!
I ride with a half helmet 90-100% of the time then the other times it’s a shielded open face. What unit setup would you recommend?
Robert, the HBC100 works great for half or open face helmets. That’s the beauty of the boomless microphone technology.
Thanks for the question.
hi, i was wondering if I’m using the hbc100 and my buddy has another brand Bluetooth communicator can i still talk to him? and how many people can you talk to lets say we are in group riding and we all have Bluetooth
Hi Edgar,
No, the HBC100 cannot directly communicate with another brand of helmet communicator directly. If you have walkie-talkies, you can connect to them using our WT300 unit. This will work with up to 20 people. They all have to have a WT300 AND a bluetooth enabled helmet communicator.
Thanks for the question!
I am greatly anticipating the arrival of the new HBC200 and am considering pre-ordering through Revzilla. I’ve read through all the specs and some preliminary reviews but haven’t heard mention of an FM radio function, similar to the Cardo G9. Will the new unit have this functionality?
Thanks,
Christian
NYC
Hi Christian,
Thanks for your interest in the HBC200. This unit does not have an FM radio function.
Sincerely,
UCLEAR Customer Service
Everything the HBC100 offers works great, even on my Bell star! I received mine a few days ago and i have tested every aspect of it with very few if any flaws or things I would change. The one thing I would change are the buttons. My down button is extremely stiff and that makes it difficult, almost impossible, to push while I’m wearing my helmet. Besides that, my helmet moves so much air which makes it kind of hard to hear at higher speeds…. Thank you guys so much and keep up the great work!
Is it possible to install/integrate a WT300 with a GL1800 Goldwing? What would the range be between the WT300 and a HBC200 on another motorcycle? Or would I have to install a HBC 200 in my helmet to talk to the other rider in lieu of going through the wired intercom/WT300 ? Thank You.
Hi Ken,
The WT300 is currently not compatible with the Goldwing, however we are working on that. The WT300 can be connected to Motorola or Uniden walkie talkies and will pair to any Bluetooth headset.
The WT300 turns a non-Bluetooth device, like a walkie talkie, into a Bluetooth device. You connect the walkie talkie to the WT300 and then pair it to your headset so the walkie talkie conversation can now take place in your helmet. The communication range is the same as your walkie talkie. The WT300 comes with a wireless Push to Talk (PTT) remote which opens and closes the channel. .
The range between 2 HBC200s is 700 meters and bringing a 3rd rider into the group increases the intercom range to 1400. The HBC200 is capable of full duplex intercom between 6 riders. As we’ve noted, we still do not have a delivery date on the HBC200.
Gentlemen,
Any word on the availability of the HBC200? I’m anxious to purchase but can’t wait too much longer as riding season is upon us!
Thanks
Hey Randy,
We don’t have any news. We’re held up by final federal approval. At this point we can only guess. Our best guess would be June. Sorry for the wait. We would love to sell you an HBC200.
I can’t find the HBC200 or the dual Force units on your web site?
Hey Terry,
We wish we did have the HBC200 on our site. We’re still waiting for final approval from the FTC. Until we have a more definite delivery date, we’re not adding the HBC200 to the store. Stay tuned. Believe us, we can’t wait either. Thanks!
I understand the unit can filter out noise originating from the SENDER unit. But even though the RECIEVER gets a clear signal, there’s still alot of ambient noise mixed in.Engine and wind noise. You still can’t get rid of that noise. Just curious because I’m waiting for the 200 to come out. Soon ?
Thanks Ron
Ron,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
You’re correct that the noise reduction for the HBC series communicators is so that the noise surrounding the sender’s voice is clear for the receiver. The speakers in the sender’s unit do not have noise reduction (like the headphones designed for air travel) for safety reasons. Blocking out ambient noise would make it difficult to hear an emergency vehicle or warning signals. The HBC100 is built with a volume auto-adjust in the phone mode so that it will change volume to compensate for increase/decrease in surrounding noise.
As far as the HBC200 delivery date, we’re still waiting for final approval from the U.S. We’re still hoping for a release in June. We’ll keep you posted.
Thanks!
Hope that helps!
My wife purchased the HBC100 for me and bought a second set of earphones for herself (passenger) so that we could talk via intercom on our motorcycle. However, there was no control setup with the second set. How can we communicate without a second controller? Are we missing something? Please help.
Hi Delmer,
You need two HBC100 units in order to use the intercom function. The accessory kit is to use the control unit with a second helmet, so you’re missing a key component. If you purchase a second HBC100 and install in your wife’s helmet, you’ll be able to pair them and have a great intercom set-up.
Thanks for the question!

UCLEAR HBC 100 Moto Helmet Communicators
I recently bought 2 of these to replace the traditional boom microphones that came with the 2010 Harley Ultra Classic Electra Glide. All my wife and I can say is WOW, we wish we had heard about these sooner. They are very easy to pair up with cell phones and each other. We love how they fit in our helmets because the old ones were very uncomfortable compared to the slim HBC 100 which we didn’t even know they were in our helmets. Even with music blaring we could hear each other! My wife even talked to our daughter on her cell phone and she didn’t even notice we were flying down the highway on the motorcycle!
Thanks Scott! Glad you’re enjoying the HBC100′s.
hi….how’s the hbc 100 talking range between 2 riders?
Hi Rudy,
Our official range is 10 meters. We’ve had testers (such as WebBikeWorld.com) find the range is much greater in the real world.
Thanks!
We have a set of the HBC100′s and are waiting patiently for the 200′s. What I’d like to know is will they be compatible with each other? Can our passengers use the 100′s to communicate with us or do we need to have 2 sets of the 200′s?
Thanks,
Connie
Hi Connie,
Thanks for purchasing the HBC100′s. You will not be able to use the multi-unit function between the HBC100 and HBC200 units. The HBC200 can pair with 5 additional HBC200 units, but the HBC100 can pair with just one other unit.
We really appreciate your support!
I tried this unit at the Vancouver Motorcycle show ………it was amazing!!! I just sold my Chatterbox on ebay today there was no comparison between the two units.I would recommend this to any rider.
